When you attach lining to a main fabric, there’s a natural tendency for the lining to roll outward and peek through to the right side of the garment. Your seam won’t lay flat, and everything just looks disheveled. Understitching solves this by creating a line of stitching that anchors the seam allowances to the lining, making it roll into the opposite direction (= inwards!).
