Michigan's largest moth is bigger than a softball

An amazing sight to find first thing in the morning! This is a Cecropia Moth (Hyalophora cecropia), the largest moth in North America, with wingspans up to almost 8 inches 😲. It is nocturnal, so this was an unusual find in the parking lot 😀 in the morning. These moths only live for about two weeks, so they don’t even have functional mouth parts… their sole aim is to mate and propagate. The female emits a pheromone that the male can detect up to a mile away! This one may have just emerged, as i
