What happened? Besides getting older 😅 What happened is weightlifting ruined my movement, made me very heavy in the heels, and swapped my one foot jump for two feet (which wasn’t that good either). Now I jump much more effortlessly because my body is actually moving like it should. The nice thing too is my one foot and two foot jump are almost identical, so now I can do both without being a bum 😇 #movementrecode | Andrew Blake

Yet… I CAN train this way. but once you start doing stuff and physics gets in the way, you are doing the best you can. That being said, you CAN keep your heels off the ground no matter how you land. What more need I say? I understand not everyone has a similar experience, and that’s great. But a lot of people have gone through what I did. Weightlifting just wasn’t doing its job for me anymore. It didn’t matter how strong I got, pain and injuries would creep in, and my athletic performance was down. Who would’ve thought ditching weightlifting for movement training would make all the difference? Not me 😂 #movementrecode | Andrew Blake

Movement ACTUALLY matters You can be as strong as you want, but if you don’t move well, you won’t be as athletic as you could be. Small things like straight feet and setting a bow (kneecap points out) are things not taught in the weight room. But those kind of movement behaviors are imperative for safe and effective movement. Straight feet, heels off the ground, inside ankle bone high get a lot of hate because they are not the norm. But guess what, just because something is the norm (like crooke

This is why I talk about straight feet and being light in the heels 🦶🏼 Crooked feet and heavy heel behavior is very likely if not guaranteed to cause the arch of your foot to collapse. This is because your weight and pressure have no where to go but in towards your midline. A collapsed arch means a weak foot and foundation that is more likely to cause pain and injury. Maintaining the arch is so much easier with straight feet and keeping pressure on the outside edge of your foot. Doesn’t matter

The problem isn’t the barbell or the weights… The problem is how we MOVE when we use those tools. If you can’t do your exercise with straight and narrow feet, heels off the ground, and keeping your hips behind your rib cage, then that exercise is not going to help you as an athlete. Athletes need to understand it’s not about strength and numbers in the gym. We want to improve how our body moves, and get back to our natural movement patterns. You can still use weights and all, just got to be more

BUILDING STRENGTH THROUGH MOVEMENT No crooked and wide feet, no collapsed knees, no hips pushed forward, NONE OF THAT. If you want strength that won’t tear down your joints and tissues at the same time, you got to train in the right positions. Positions that keep your body aligned and moving well. One of the most athletic guards, and he’s not even trying Stephon Castles movement is a perfect example of how every athlete should move. It’s durable, it’s performative. And the good news is you CAN train to move this way. You should rethink your training g if it isn’t giving you the movement patterns you want. You have to face the truth… how you train is how you play. You want straight or crooked feet? It’s up to you.. If you’re an athlete ready to ditch weightlifting for movement training, DM

I will say, some of his gains were due to improving technique, but that only got him from not touching rim to grabbing it. After that, GOATA did the rest 😎 Cam has more of an athletic and weightlifting background than I did, which is crazy considering how unathletic he was. But GOATA changed all of that for him, as you can see 😏 Here’s the link to the podc

MOVEMENT Real athleticism comes from good movement, not just strength or power. You need movement that is durable AND performative. Otherwise, what’s the point of other things like strength if you’re hurt all the time!? This is exactly what GOATA delivers, and it’s why I’ve been able to get out of and stay out of pain, while increasing athleticism, all without weightlifting. Here’s the thing… They FAIL to understand I already did weightlifting for 10 years! I’ve done so many different programs and training in that time, I’ve just about tried it all. Now, I find GOATA, it does wonders for me and actually

If elite athletes like Stephon Castle, Ja Morant, and Mac McClung all do this, then we all should be doing it! Staying healthy and avoiding injury should be every athletes number one priority. And learning to land properly to the ground is one of those ways to avoid injury. With all the reps of jumping and landing in your sport, you need to land safely on the balls of your feet. Otherwise, unnecessary wear and tear can occur leading to pain and injury. It’s not worth the risk. Stay light in those heels so you can stay healthy for longer. #movementrecode | Andrew Blake

Keep your head over your foot 🦶🏼 This is something the weight-room doesn’t teach unless you intentionally do it. Here’s why we care about where our head goes… Wherever your head goes, the pressure will follow. By keeping your head over your foot, you will be loading more of your weight and pressure on that leg. This helps that leg produce more force, which means running faster or jumping higher. And guess what will make it easier to keep your head over foot? 🤔 that’s right… STRAIGHT FEET 🦶🏼

You used to sit here all the time as a kid… what happened? This exercise literally helps, unlock your hips, knees, feet and ankles. It will strengthen your back, glutes, hip flexors, and feet muscles… all while training you to move better. And that should be the goal of your training. To get stronger in the right movement patterns. If you’re not able to get into this position, then it’s very likely you have dysfunctional movement patterns. #movementrecode | Andrew Blake

Nothing wrong with the exercise, just the execution 👇🏻 The “shape” or positions our body takes on as it loads and releases pressure/force matters. Repping crooked feet and knee caps pointing in is a recipe for disaster. You’ll notice how often with crooked feet that the thigh bone will turn in while the shin bone is trying to turn out. It’s disharmony that can end in pain/injury. Instead, train with straight feet, properly load that leg (where knee caps points out) where both thigh and shin tu

Someone has to say it It’s just getting ridiculous at this point. Why don’t we have this stuff figured out all ready? And no, idc that games are “faster” and “more intense”. Technology and science continue to exponentially get better, it’s one or the other. Either science, technology, and training isn’t as good as we think it is, or the most genetically gifted bodies aren’t meant for this… Yet we get hated on for asking these kinds of questions… Strength isn’t the main culprit here. Movement is.

You gotta think of the BIG picture! Just because we want to isolate the glute and work on internal/external rotation does not mean doing it at the cost of training our knees to collapse inside! (Literally using the foam roller to push the knee inward) This is one of those things you gotta think “do the pros outweigh the cons?”, and in this case, no it does not! Keep yourself safe, DONT train your knees to collapse inside. Seriously. #movementrecode #weighttraining #strengthtraining #goata #goata
