Large waves have been hitting the Peruvian coast over the weekend and are expected to continue this week. Dozens of fishermen had to be rescued.

Unusually high waves have been wreaking havoc on Peru's northern and central coasts. Video from Friday shows massive waves rolling over sailboats, swallowing jet skis and crashing into the Peruvian coast as onlookers scramble away from the rushing water.

Massive 13ft waves are battering the coastlines of Peru and Ecuador as of December 30. Footage captured in Piura, Peru on December 27 shows the high swells tossing boats around the water and causing some to sink.

Unusually large waves hit the coasts of Peru, Ecuador and Chile, causing considerable damage and loss of life.
