President Donald Trump announced Monday his plan to activate hundreds of National Guard troops and federalize the Washington, D.C. Metropolitan Police Department to address violent crime in the nation’s capital.

President Donald Trump will hold a news conference Monday that he said "will, essentially, stop violent crime in Washington, D.C."

President Trump promised a weekend crackdown on Washington, D.C.'s homeless population and criminals. Trump activated federal agents to also be a show of force across the district.
