OAKMONT, Pa. — No one expected the final round of the U.S. Open to be easy. But sometimes when it rains, it pours. With the leaders through seven holes, play was suspended Sunday afternoon as a storm passed through the area northeast of Pittsburgh. Golfers were evacuated from the course, and fans were encouraged to take shelter.
The winner of the 2025 U.S. Open will take home a hefty paycheck of $4.3 million, the same amount as last year's winner Bryson DeChambeau.
I just need to get myself in the right frame of mind. I probably haven’t been there the last few weeks," said McIlroy, after breaking par for the first time in his last seven rounds.

Rory McIlroy shot a 3-under 67 to finish the U.S. Open at 7 over. That's a performance he can build off as he works toward the year’s final major.
The event will be back on schedule for the final day, after a weather delay suspended play in the second round on Friday and forced an early morning on Saturday to finish out the round. The third round was also pushed back from its originally scheduled start as a result, but finished on Saturday evening.
Tony Finau’s 10th U.S. Open is in the books. The Utah native shot a +1 in Sunday’s final round at Oakmont Country Club in Pennsylvania, finishing at +11 for the tournament to tie for 39th place. Finau recorded birdies on holes 5, 13, 14 and 17, while bogeying three times along with a double-bogey on the 12th hole.
The last time there was a playoff at the U.S. Open, Tiger Woods outlasted Rocco Mediate in a Monday finish in 2008 at Torrey Pines in San Diego.
