Netflix Inc. added more than 5 million customers in the third quarter and eclipsed Wall Street’s expectations on every major financial metric despite a new programming slate constrained by last year’s strikes in Hollywood.

Netflix reported strong third-quarter earnings, in a sign that its content mix, including "Emily in Paris," and its password sharing crackdown are still paying off.

Netflix earnings are coming after the bell Thursday, with analysts generally bullish on the stock that has already risen more than 40% this year.
