City council members in Chesapeake have been given the green light to what would be the tallest tower in Virginia. It is part of what will soon be a submarine cable manufacturing facility.

Chesapeake City Council voted unanimously — and eagerly — Tuesday to approve a conditional use permit for a height exception to allow for a proposed 660-foot tower as part of a manufacturing

The B1M, a video channel focused on construction, considers 492 feet to be the minimum height for a skyscraper, which the Chesapeake tower would also meet. However, its definition also requires that at least 50% of the total height be habitable floor space – and the Chesapeake building, as a manufacturing facility, would not qualify.
