Amazon Web Services or AWS, affiliated to Amazon.com Inc. (AMZN), announced Tuesday the launch of the AWS Mexico (Central) Region.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has launched a new cloud region in Mexico. Dubbed the AWS Mexico (Central) Region, it forms part of AWS' commitment to invest more than $5 billion in Mexico over 15 years and went live on January 14.

Amazon’s cloud computing division, said it plans to invest $5 billion in Mexico over the next 15 years as a part of a “long-term commitment” in the region. A portion of that investment is a new server region in Mexico launching today,

AWS estimates the construction and ongoing operation of the new AWS Region will add approximately $10 billion to Mexico's gross domestic product (GDP) and support an average of more than 7,000 full-time equivalent jobs at external businesses annually.
