Fire crews from Ventura and Los Angeles counties are battling a rapidly growing vegetation fire in Holser Canyon, near Lake Piru, in 100-degree heat. The blaze, called the Canyon Fire, is estimated to be at 600 acres.

First discovered: 1:31 p.m. Aug. 7 A new wildfire was reported today at 1:31 p.m. in Ventura County, California. Canyon Fire has been burning on private land. At this time, the containment status is unknown and the cause of the fire remains undetermined.

A brush fire started Thursday southeast of Lake Piru in Ventura County as this week’s warm temperatures in Southern California reached their peak. The Canyon Fire was estimated at about 50 acres and burning in the direction of ranch homes.
