B.C. Ferries cancelled trips between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island as a windstorm slammed into the southwest coast of British Columbia on Christmas Day.Very strong southeast winds are expected for much of Vancouver Island and the South Coast,

Most sailings on BC Ferries' major routes between Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island have been cancelled due to the Christmas Day storm.

Rainfall amounts of 50 to 80 mm are expected for most of Metro Vancouver. For the North Shore, northern Coquitlam, and Maple Ridge, 100 mm or more is possible. Places at higher terrain over 300 metres, "a brief period of wet snow may give slippery conditions," according to Environment Canada.

A parade of storms is headed to the Lower Mainland and power outages are possible on Christmas Day, Dec. 25. Environment Canada Meteorologist Chris Doyle tells V.I.A. that Monday's forecast (Dec. 23) includes mostly dry weather, with a mix of sun and cloud and some patchy fog throughout the day.

It was a blustery Christmas Day for Vancouver Island after wind and rainfall warnings were posted by Environment and Climate Change Canada.
