Heavy rainfall caused the Guadalupe River in Texas to flood on Friday, prompting search teams to begin rescues and leading to reports of multiple fatalities. Overnight, residents in central Kerr County witnessed as much as 10 inches of heavy rain within just a few hours.

The authorities confirmed that people had died as a result of the flooding along the Guadalupe River, and urged those living near the river to seek higher ground immediately.

The Kerr County Sheriff’s Office confirmed there had been fatalities amid “catastrophic flooding” but declined to release numbers as of Friday afternoon.
