The Indian stock market indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are likely to open higher on Wednesday, tracking gains in global peers.The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a positive start for the Indian benchmark index.

Reliance Industries Ltd., HDFC Bank Ltd., Maruti Suzuki Ltd., Kotak Mahindra Bank Ltd., Larsen & Toubro added to the Nifty 50 index.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty 50 and Sensex ended the previous trade session in the red. Nifty 50 closed at 23,440.00, while Sensex ended at 77,378.91. On Friday, Wall Street indices ended lower. Asian markets were under pressure in early trade today.

Resistances for the benchmark Nifty 50 index is seen at 23,340 and 23,500, while on the downside 23,047 becomes the base for the short term, said analysts.

The Indian equity market closed in the green on Tuesday amid favourable domestic and global cues, as Adani Enterprises was the top Nifty 50 gainer.

The market is expected to be under intense pressure with strong headwinds. Brent crude is above $81 per barrel, while sharper than expected surge in US jobs data coupled with consistent FIIs selling and Q3 earnings have taken a toll on the market.

The Nifty 50 ended the session with a gain of 0.35% at 23,167, while the Sensex closed at 76,500 marking a 0.22% increase from the previous close. Likewise, the Nifty Smallcap 100 index rose by 1.97% and the Nifty Midcap 100 index concluded the day with a gain of 2.

The stock markets started trading on Wednesday in the positive territory following a firm trend seen in the Asian indices. The BSE Sensex rallied a little over 400 points to cross 76,900 in early trade,

The performance comes ahead of the Budget 2025 announcement, with Q3 earnings, foreign investors flow and global trends emerging as key triggers currently. On January 14, 2025, the market is open despite the public holiday in many states due to the celebration of Makar Sankranti 2025.

The gains were led by Reliance Industries Ltd, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd, Larsen & Toubro and Zomato Ltd. The BSE Sensex rose 248.07 points or 0.32 per cent to 76,747.70. Nifty stood at 23,231.40, up 55.

Indian benchmark indices Nifty and Sensex ended on Tuesday with modest gains, breaking a four-day losing streak, as a strong rally in banking, metal, and energy stocks lifted sentiment. However, a selloff in IT and FMCG stocks kept investors cautious.
