Lazio president Claudio Lotito has launched his latest attack on Mason Greenwood, labelling the former Manchester United star a “mercenary.” Greenwood has been the subject of deep-cutting comments by Lotito since Lazio missed out on this signature to Marseille.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe contributed to the decision to sell Greenwood and the club believed his exit delivered on their commitment that he would continue his career elsewhere. United also inserted a sell-on clause into the deal to earn a sizable share of any future transfer of the forward.

Greenwood, who had charges of attempted rape, engaging in controlling and coercive behaviour, and assault occasioning actual bodily harm dropped last February, has since been labelled a "mercenary" by Lotito following his decision to reject a move to Lazio.
