A Florida state high school football championship came down to the wire and ended with a chaotic play. Lake Mary defeated Vero Beach, 28-27.

DeSoto's (Texas) three-star junior running back SaRod Baker continued his stellar postseason run rushing 37 times for 346 yards and three touchdowns in a 57-44 upset win over No. 3 Southlake Carroll (Southlake, Texas) in the UIL 6A Division 2 semifinals. He also had a 56-yard receiving score.

Adam Schiermyer said he was dismissed as head football coach at Mesa Skyline High on Friday, Dec. 12. Schiermyer led the program the past four seasons. The Coyotes went 3-7 each of the past two years and 5-5 in each of his first two years at Skyline.

Lake Travis lost to Galena Park North Shore 28-6 on Saturday in a Class 6A Division I semifinal in the high school football playoffs.

Wilson J.B. Hunt and Shelby Crest will battle for the Class 5A North Carolina High School Athletic Association title at 8 p.m. at Durham County Memorial Stadium in Durham. Both teams enter with 12-2 records in this contest. Crest has won 6 state titles, the most recent came in 2015 in Class 3AA.

The Varina Blue Devils face the Loudoun County Captains in the Virginia high school football Class 4 state final.
