Commissioners voted Thursday to censure Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo, marking the first time a sitting judge has been formally admonished in the county’s history.

A vote to censure is a formal expression of disapproval but has no impact on Hidalgo's ability to serve in her elected position or on the commissioners court.

Harris County Judge Linda Hidalgo walked out of a commissioners court meeting Thursday, after her tax hike proposal to fund early childcare programs-dubbed the "penny tax"-was met with fierce opposition from her fellow commissioners.
