The mine will be strategically developed to ensure no production gap between the end of operations at the Cut 9 open pit (expected in about 2034) and the mine's transition to underground operations.

With open pit operations expected to reach their economic limit around 2034, Debswana started the Jwaneng mine underground project in May last year.

The original plan included an open-pit mine, followed by years of underground mining to extract the remaining precious copper, gold and silver.
