Wilson is not a terrible quarterback by any means. Despite his falling out of favor with Denver Broncos head coach Sean Payton at the end of 2023, Wilson still secured 3,070 yards, 26 touchdowns, and eight interceptions. He could easily get the Steelers' offense to a new level, and if he doesn't — Fields will be waiting to jump back into action.

Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Justin Fields said Thursday he didn't think he played "good enough" to solidify himself as the starter over Russell Wilson.

Ahead of the 2024 season, Steelers coach Mike Tomlin named Wilson QB1 for the year, but he has yet to make his season debut as he's been dealing with a calf injury. In the meantime, Fields led the Steelers to a 4–2 start, surpassing many people's expectations for him.
