BSE Sensex and Nifty50, the Indian equity benchmark indices, closed in green on Wednesday. While BSE Sensex was above 76,700, Nifty50 was over 23,200.

Sensex climbed 437.73 points or 0.57 per cent to 76,767.74. Nifty stood at 23,219.55, up 133.60 points or 0.58 per cent. In the broader market, every two stocks advanced for even one that declined.

The Indian equity markets experienced a sharp decline on Monday, with the BSE Sensex and Nifty50 both trading deep in the red.

Indian equity benchmark indices BSE Sensex and Nifty50 plunged significantly on Monday, with Sensex falling over 1000 points and Nifty over 300 points. The rupee also hit a life-time low against the US dollar.

Pharma index tumbled 1 percent led by a sharp downfall in Dr Reddy's, Lupin and Glenmark. A fall in HUL, ITC, and Nestle dragged the FMCG index lower by half a percent.

The performance comes ahead of the Budget 2025 announcement, with Q3 earnings, foreign investors flow and global trends emerging as key triggers currently. On January 14, 2025, the market is open despite the public holiday in many states due to the celebration of Makar Sankranti 2025.

The S&P BSE Sensex gained 408.52 points to 76,738.53, while the NSE Nifty50 110.05 points to 23,196.00 as of 9:30 AM.

The trends on Gift Nifty also indicate a gap-up start for the Indian benchmark index. The Gift Nifty was trading around 23,280 level, a premium of nearly 118 points from the Nifty futures’ previous close.
