On Wednesday, the toxic waste - around 337 tonnes - was taken from the Union Carbide factory in the central Indian city of Bhopal to an incinerator facility around 230km (143 miles) away. It will take between three and nine months to treat and destroy the waste.

Indian authorities said on Thursday they had completed moving toxic waste from the site of the 1984 Bhopal gas leak disaster, which killed more than 5,000 people, to a disposal facility where it will take three to nine months to incinerate.

As per the 1992 study by R Dhara, the Bhopal gas leak, world's worst disaster, caused chronic inflammatory damage to the eyes and lungs, which was also the main cause of morbidity.
