Two dogs are dead and five people are looking for a place to stay after flames ripped through a north Phoenix garage and damaged the home on Tuesday night. It happened on 36th Avenue near Thunderbird Road around 9 p.

The fast-moving fire destroyed a historic lodge and dozens of other structures in the Grand Canyon National Park.

The White Sage Fire was burning in Arizona bout 15 miles southeast of Fredonia in Coconino County and north of the Grand Canyon State Park.

The White Sage Fire is still burning out of control in northern Arizona, and in its path is the Jacob Lake Inn, a family business more than a century old. On July 10, everyone at the Inn had to evacuate because of the White Sage Fire.

Authorities maintained the evacuation zones for the White Sage Fire north of the Grand Canyon as the fire grew expectantly.

Officials have closed the North Rim of the Grand Canyon as the White Sage Fire burns near the town of Fredonia. Just 35 miles south, the Bravo Dragon Fire has destroyed structures inside the park.

In the last 24 hours, the fire jumped Highway 89A, a major corridor connecting the Grand Canyon’s North Rim to communities in southern Utah.

Highway closures and evacuations remain in effect as a wildfire burns more than 49,000 acres in Coconino County. It is one of two blazes raging at or near the northern rim of the Grand Canyon.
