Dominion Energy, Energy Northwest, and X-energy Reactor Company LLC signed three new individual agreements with Amazon to support the development of nuclear energy projects, including enabling the construction of several new small modular reactors (SMRs).

The digital retail and web services company led a $500 million investment in X-energy and will support the development of more than 600 MW of SMR capacity in Washington and Virginia.

Amazon has a deal with Energy Northwest to fund the initial feasibility phase of a nuclear facility in central Washington, with the right to purchase electricity from the 320 megawatt plant.

Amazon backs 5 GW of X-energy SMRs by 2029, starting with a 4-unit plant in Washington. Amazon and Dominion will also explore SMR deployment in Virginia to meet growing power demand.
