Boston Red Sox third baseman Alex Bregman isn't close to returning as he recovers from a strained right quadriceps, according to Red Sox manager Alex Cora.

The Boston Red Sox have been without Alex Bregman since he sustained a quad strain. He is working his way back, but still has some hurdles to clear.

NEW YORK — Alex Bregman (right quad strain) began his running progression Thursday, manager Alex Cora said. “If it’s up to him, he’ll be playing tonight,” Cora joked Friday before Boston’s series opener against the Yankees at Yankee Stadium.
