It was back in 2012, in a major burglary at their family home in Westbury that Michael O'Connell's helmet, two of his medals, and about $20,000 worth of valuables was stolen.

Michael O'Connell took to Facebook on Tuesday in an effort to recover the helmet. "This was my FDNY helmet I wore my entire career including 9/11/01," the former lieutenant wrote.
