New York and New Jersey have sued the Trump administration for freezing $16 billion in federal funding for a new rail tunnel under the Hudson River between the two states, seeking a quick ruling because construction underway could be halted as early as Friday.
The federal government hasn’t released funding frozen during last October’s government shutdown.
The $16 billion project, which connects trains running from New Jersey to New York, has been called the most important infrastructure project in the nation.

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Lane closures are scheduled for several bridges and tunnels from Jan. 23 through Jan. 30, according to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey. Among those crossings is the Outerbridge Crossing linking the South Shore to New Jersey.
