Officials are urging people to stay home as road conditions Sunday are expected to get worse with possible power outages.

Everyone from school systems to local municipalities is preparing for the worst as an ice storm threatens travel and power.

Winter Storm Fern threatened more than 140 million people across the US Saturday, caused a record number of canceled flights, and left thousands without power as the “biggest ice storm in a decade” began its monstrous march across the nation.

Areas of freezing drizzle are possible overnight with temperatures in the 20s. Power outages still remain possible with icy conditions.

A glaze of ice is starting to coat areas in the Piedmont Triad. The impacts of the storm are expected to continue into next week as bitterly cold temperatures linger.
