Los Angeles police issued a dispersal order as a student immigration protest turned violent in downtown LA Wednesday. At least five people were detained, police say.

For the second straight night, a small group of demonstrators clashed with LAPD officers in downtown Los Angeles following a peaceful day of anti-ICE protests on Saturday.

The victim and two suspects had gotten into some sort of confrontation near the intersection, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Crowds of people gathered at demonstrations Friday in Los Angeles, including at Gloria Molina Grand Park in the city’s downtown area. Rallies started there and at locations around Southern California in a nationwide day of action seeking to stop funding for U.

In June, demonstrators took to the streets of Downtown LA following a series of high-profile immigration raids across the city. A few days later, Trump called up 2,000 soldiers from the California National Guard to maintain order, overriding objections from California Gov. Gavin Newsom.

According to NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard, the real heat shows up Tuesday, when highs climb into the 80s, then make a run at 90F on Wednesday as offshore Santa Ana winds strengthen. Gusts are expected to reach 25 to 40 mph in the usual wind-prone valleys and up to 50 mph in the mountains.

Several protests are expected in L.A. and around the country in response to the Trump administration’s immigration actions.

The national day of action calls for "no work, no school, no shopping."
