California voters approved Proposition 50, returning authority over congressional maps from the independent redistricting commission to the Democratic-controlled California Legislature. Gov. Gavin Newsom has said the measure responds to mid‑decade Republican redistricting in states such as Texas and Missouri.
With more than 48,000 ballots still to be tabulated, about 61% of Ventura County voters supported the successful Proposition 50 redistricting measure, according to an election update on Nov. 10.
