NEW YORK (PIX11) – It’s an “oy to the world” moment. It’s a mashup of Christmas and the first night of Hanukkah. It happens about once every 20 years, and this year, it happened. There’s even a nickname for this day “Chrismukkah.”

The Jewish holiday of Hanukkah may not receive quite the same level of attention as Christmas. But as Adam Sandler pointed out in his hit “Hanukkah Song,” the holiday, which starts this year on Wednesday evening, does offer children one advantage: “Instead of one day of presents, we have eight crazy nights.”

When Kai Cutler, age 4, walks into his living room, he sees a Christmas tree topped with a glittering star. That ornament is out of reach, but another decoration nearby hangs at eye level: A fabric menorah with Velcro candle flames.
