Security researchers have warned that malicious apps with millions of installs have been detected in the Google Play Store. Here’s what you need to know.

A federal judge in California has granted Google's request to temporarily pause his order directing the Alphabet unit to overhaul its Android app store Play by Nov. 1 to give consumers more choice over how they download software.

Google has now requested an emergency stay for the recent ruling, stating the upcoming November 1 deadline doesn't give the company enough time to mitigate risks, while claiming the court order will "expose 100-million-plus US users of Android devices to substantial new security risks."

For three years, Google will have to let third-party Android app stores access the Google Play Store's catalog of apps "so that they may offer the Play Store apps to users," said the injunction issued by US District Judge James Donato of the Northern District of California.

Google Pixel is all set to update its Play Store by adding more security and privacy features.The long-awaited feature is Google's network security, which is designed to protect users from network tracking and inception.

Google had been ordered to start opening up its app store to third parties by Nov. 1, but that is now on hold pending the decision of an appeals court.
