Karla Sofía Gascón, who is nominated for her titular role in Best Picture nominee “Emilia Pérez,” will attend the Oscars Sunday after resurfaced racist tweets.

Emilia Pérez” star Karla Sofía Gascón hasn’t attended many awards shows ever since racist tweets she made in the past resurfaced. But that changes on Sunday because Gascón is expected to attend the Oscars in Los Angeles where she is the first openly trans woman to be nominated in the Best Actress category.

"Karla’s nomination is historic. That’s really important. She’s still a nominee," Academy CEO Bill Kramer said.

Karla Sofía Gascón has become a big problem for the Academy since her historic hate tweets were revealed to the world. Earlier this year, Emilia Pérez’s Gascón made history as the first transgender woman nominated for an acting Oscar.
