One dog was abandoned by its owners before Hurricane Milton made landfall on Wednesday, Oct. 9, and was promptly rescued by Florida Highway Patrol. The dog was examined by a vet and received a "clean bill of health.

On Tuesday, Gov. Ron DeSantis said the owner of the dog has been identified and could face animal cruelty charges.

While Hurricane Milton was racing towards the Gulf Coast, the FHP in Tampa risked their own lives to rescue an abandoned dog on the side of I-75.
