On Tuesday, August 5 th, the U.S. Transportation Secretary unveiled a new proposed rule – Beyond Visual Line of Sight – for managing drone deliveries. This proposed rule is intended to provide a way to scale industrial drone operations safely.

The idea of having a drone drop your packages off at your home may sound like a fantasy, but the concept is being tested right here in North Dakota.

Right now, you’re not allowed to fly a drone without a human watching the drone for the duration of its flight (there are case-by-case exemptions and waivers you can get, but these can be expensive and take a long time to obtain).
