CHAVES COUNTY, N.M. (KRQE) — Intense flooding hit Chaves County on Saturday, leaving residents trapped or stuck. “There were rapids going down that river, right down the road, and when you turned around and looked, there was more and more,” said Roswell Mayor, Tim Jennings.

The New Mexico National Guard is continuing search and rescue operations after record rainfall produced severe flooding in and around the city of Roswell and Chaves County.

Roswell, N.M., received nearly a third of its annual rainfall total in just a few hours on Sunday. Rescue efforts were ongoing with more storms in the forecast.
