Alabama has executed a man who said he was guilty of a woman's rape and murder and deserved to die. Fifty-five-year-old James Osgood received a lethal injection Thursday evening at a south Alabama prison.

ATMORE, Ala. — An Alabama man who dropped his appeals and said he deserved to die for the rape and murder of a woman in 2010 was put to death Thursday evening. James Osgood, 55, was pronounced dead at 6:35 p.m. CT following a lethal injection at a south Alabama prison, authorities said.

While Osgood initially denied killing Tracy Wilemon, he eventually confessed to police, telling them he remembered "seeing the fear in her eyes."
