The festival, called Fiestas Patronales Puertorriqueñas, began Thursday and continues through Sunday. The highlight will be Saturday's parade, which steps off at noon at Paseo Boricua on Division Street near Campbell Avenue.

As tents went up Wednesday in the park of Humboldt Park, those involved said safety and security were top of mind for both the parade and festival.

But a neighbor said there was no gunman for whom to search, because the teen accidentally shot himself. Sara Machi reports.
